Understanding Rappahannock County Releases
Rappahannock County does not operate an adult jail of its own. RSW Regional Jail is the local custodian for people held on county matters. Its initials stand for Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren, and the facility serves all three member counties. A local release record comes from RSW even though the jail is in Warren County. The Rappahannock County Sheriff may separately hold an arrest or incident record, while the county courts maintain the orders and case history that explain why custody changed.
Release means physical custody ended in one system. It does not always mean the person entered the community with no further limits. Bond can end jail confinement while a case remains open. Time served may end the active jail term while probation remains. Parole ends prison confinement under supervision. A transfer ends the RSW booking but continues custody with VADOC, another jail, federal authorities, or another lawful custodian. The release record must state the event and destination before the outcome can be described with confidence.

Rappahannock County Release Types
Each outcome sends the search in a different direction. RSW's transaction is the best source for the local event time and disposition code. A court file can confirm a bond order, dismissal, sentence, or credit for time served, but it may not show when staff finished the release process. VADOC records become central after a state transfer or prison term. Federal and immigration custody use their own systems.

Escape, death, hospital movement, a court appearance, a data correction, and lawful suppression can also remove or alter a live listing. None should be labeled a community release without a positive event record.
Rappahannock County Release Record Fields
A useful record answers identity, source custody, time, event type, and destination. Ask for stable identifiers because common names can produce false matches. The record may contain more than the public screen displays, and lawful exemptions can limit some fields. A narrow request for the transaction is more precise than a demand for an entire corrections file.

Charges, sentence credit, property or funds acknowledgment, and an adult initial-intake booking photograph may also be present. The exact field names differ among RSW, VADOC, Virginia Jail VINE, courts, and BOP. A VINE event is timely corroboration, not the custodian's certified file.
Request Rappahannock County Release Records
The official RSW FOIA route is the direct path for a local booking-and-release transaction. RSW did not publish a readable special form, fixed per-page price, or records-office hours in the reviewed material. Ask for an electronic copy and a cost estimate before production. Virginia's ordinary response period is five working days after receipt. A valid written practical-impossibility response may add seven working days, and an estimate above $200 may require a deposit.
- Identify the person with full name, birth date, booking number if known, and an approximate Rappahannock booking range.

A broad request can reach exempt prison or supervision material. A focused request for a public date, status, and release document is more likely to separate releasable facts from protected content.
Rappahannock Release Record Law
Virginia Code § 2.2-3704 controls request mechanics, reasonable specificity, format, timing, and charges. Adult routine initial-intake photographs receive specific treatment under § 2.2-3706. Broader imprisonment and probation or parole files may be exempt, so public status fields should not be confused with access to a full institutional file.
Online visibility is not retention. The Virginia Public Records Act requires lawful schedules and disposal controls even after a name leaves a public page.
No universal RSW retention period was found. Ask RSW for the Library of Virginia record-series title and schedule. Court files often remain available much longer than a roster entry, subject to public-access rules. Sealed, expunged, and juvenile material requires separate treatment. A missing protected record must not be used to infer that no custody event occurred.
Rappahannock Community Custody Releases
RSW's Home Electronic Monitoring and Work Force programs are not ordinary community releases. Home Electronic Monitoring permits a qualified participant to serve the sentence at home under continuous GPS. Work Force participants complete projects in the member jurisdictions under direct officer supervision and GPS. Both require court authorization and jail review, and RSW applies stated eligibility rules.
The published Home Electronic Monitoring charge is $26 per day or $182 weekly. That fee belongs only to this documented program and should not be described as a general bond, release, or gate fee. A participant may be outside the jail building while still serving a custodial sentence. Status confirmation should therefore name the program rather than merely say “released.”
RSW Releases Versus State Transfers
RSW's historic FY2019 facility-wide report drew a firm line between 4,027 releases and 33 transfers to VADOC, alongside 4,122 commitments. Those numbers cover all three member counties and are not current Rappahannock County release totals. They should not be used to estimate today's activity.
The value of the old count is definitional. RSW itself recorded transfer apart from release. A person who leaves the local locator for VADOC remains confined, while someone released on bond or after time served may enter the community. Any current inquiry still needs the person's actual transaction record.
Property After Virginia Prison Release
VADOC's published facility-release process says staff return personal property and the property envelope holding items such as identification and certificates. Suitable discharge clothes may be supplied. These are state-prison procedures, not promises about an RSW local release. RSW does not publish a full post-release property-pickup process, so Booking should be called before anyone travels to collect an item.
VADOC Operating Procedure 050.6 also supplies a written correction route when a person believes a corrections record is wrong. A request goes through the Facility Unit Head or the head of the supervision office. Verified changes are routed to central records. That route can matter when a release date, status, or identity field appears incorrect.
Find Rappahannock County Released Inmates
Start with the system that last had legal custody. RSW is first for a Rappahannock County arrest held locally. VADOC is first for a state prison sentence or community-supervision record. BOP is limited to federal prisoners, and ICE uses a separate civil-detention locator. The court record then explains bond, dismissal, sentence, or other judicial authority.
- Search the official RSW-linked current locator and save the date and exact result. A listed person is shown in present custody, not released.

The VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator covers people in state institutions and listed categories of community supervision. It can remain useful after prison release when a person is on probation or parole. It is not a statewide archive of every person once held at RSW, and VADOC says it updates daily while warning that data may not always be current.

A projected parole, mandatory-parole, or good-time date is a time-of-inquiry estimate. A VADOC release letter, signed Order of Release, or narrow status confirmation is stronger proof that the event occurred.
Rappahannock County Recent Releases
RSW links a CAPTCHA-gated JailTracker under the title “RSW Inmate Locator.” The reviewed official navigation provides no distinct 24-hour or 72-hour release feed, refresh promise, or post-release display period. It would be inaccurate to rename the current locator as a release list or construct a release log by comparing roster snapshots.
Use RSW Booking for a prompt present-status inquiry, Virginia Jail VINE for a named custody-change notice, the court case for legal context, and the FOIA route for the booking-and-release transaction. A date-range request may ask whether RSW maintains an exportable public release log, but no rolling public dataset should be claimed until RSW supplies it.
Rappahannock Supervision After Release
Parole and probation are different. Parole is conditional release from incarceration under the governing legal framework. Probation is a community status imposed by a court and managed through VADOC Community Corrections. Either can mean the person is out of a prison or jail while legal supervision continues.
The VADOC locator can show a probation or parole district instead of a prison. Rappahannock County belongs to District 25, centered in Leesburg with another Warrenton office. A Parole Board grant is authorization, not proof of the later physical exit. Confirm the release through VADOC status or release documents, then confirm the listed supervision office when needed.
Rappahannock Courts After Jail Release
Rappahannock's General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations courts share a combined clerk page, while Circuit Court maintains felony trials, sentencing, and appeals. Rappahannock Release Notices and Federal Records
Virginia Jail VINE covers local and regional custody events such as RSW. A notice may say “released or transferred,” so the destination still matters. Current VADOC state-prison notifications use NAAVI for eligible victims and immediate family under its rules. Registration in local VINE does not transfer automatically to NAAVI after a state handoff.
The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal prisoners from 1982 to the present and can show a release date or released status. It cannot verify a purely local RSW release. “Not in BOP custody” also does not rule out custody elsewhere or federal supervised release. USMS pretrial movement is checked through the federal court order and Marshals context because USMS has no comparable public historical release locator.

Use three clear outcomes: confirmed released to the community, transferred with custody continuing, or not shown with the result still unconfirmed. That language avoids turning a database miss into a fact.
Which Rappahannock Jail Holds Records?
RSW opened in July 2014 in Warren County as a regional facility for Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren. It replaced older participating local arrangements and includes dedicated intake and release space. The similarly named Rappahannock Regional Jail is in the Stafford area and serves different jurisdictions. Confusing the names sends a request to the wrong custodian.
Use the full name “RSW Regional Jail” and the Front Royal address when requesting a Rappahannock County release transaction. The Rappahannock County Sheriff's Office remains the proper contact for an arrest or incident record it created. State, federal, and immigration systems are separate tracks and are not physical prisons identified inside Rappahannock County.
