Rappahannock VINELink Custody Coverage
Virginia Jail VINE on VINELink covers local and regional jail custody information and notification. Rappahannock County's serving jail is RSW Regional Jail in Front Royal. RSW, not the unrelated Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford, is the facility to match in a local search. The service is free, anonymous, and available around the clock. A person need not create a general account merely to search public custody information.
VINE is an event-notification system. It is not the custodian of the underlying booking, court, or release record. Its value is speed: a named-person alert can arrive after the jail reports a release or transfer event. The RSW booking-and-release transaction remains the stronger source for the exact time, reason, and destination. Virginia court information can explain a bond change, disposition, or sentence, but a court order alone may not establish that jail staff completed release.
The official Virginia person-search screen comes from the VINELink state entry.
The state selection and People search are the correct starting point for an RSW custody event, not a general web name search.
Search Rappahannock Inmates on VINELink
Search for one person at a time. Use the most stable identifier the interface accepts. Name-only results need care because two people may share a name or a spelling variant. The facility and event details should agree with what is known about the Rappahannock County case. Save the date of the query since custody data changes.
- Select Virginia and open the People search.
- Enter the person's name or identifier as the current interface permits. Try a known spelling variant only when needed.
- Narrow the result to RSW Regional Jail or the correct local agency. Do not select Rappahannock Regional Jail by name alone.
- Compare identifiers and facility details before opening a record. Do not combine facts from same-name results.
- Read the custody status, facility, event wording, and last update. Save the query date with the result.
- When the event says released or transferred, contact RSW or follow the named receiving system before describing the outcome.
A person still shown at RSW is listed in local custody at that query time. A no-result does not prove release. It can reflect a transfer, a delayed update, a corrected record, or coverage limits. The broader Rappahannock County release search shows how to add the RSW record, court case, VADOC locator, BOP locator, or ICE locator as the facts require.
Note: Match the facility as well as the name because Virginia has two similarly named jails serving different parts of the state.
Rappahannock VINELink Release Fields
Read every displayed label in context. The exact live interface can change, and not every record exposes the same detail. Record the identity fields, the agency or facility, the status or event words, and the last reported update. If the interface provides an offender or booking identifier, use it in later contact with RSW. Do not turn a projected date into proof that release occurred.
| VINELink field | What it can show |
|---|---|
| Name or identifier | The person tied to the search result, subject to careful identity matching. |
| Agency or facility | The local jail or reporting custodian associated with the event. |
| Custody status | The current status wording available within the system's scope. |
| Event description | A reported release, transfer, or other custody change. |
| Event or update time | When the system reports or last refreshed the available event data. |
| Notification options | The channels offered for alerts tied to that person or record. |
“Released or transferred” is intentionally broader than “released to the community.” A transfer into VADOC, another jail, federal custody, or immigration custody ends the RSW stay while confinement continues. Ask RSW for the receiving agency. If the event is a community release, request the booking-and-release record when an exact time and reason are needed.
Register Rappahannock Release Alerts
Registration begins on the correct person's detail record. Virginia Jail VINE supports phone, email, text, and TTY notification choices. Each destination must be entered accurately. A phone registration uses a personal identification number, or PIN, to confirm receipt. When the automated call arrives, entering the PIN tells the system the message reached the registrant and stops repeated calls for that event.
- Open the matched person's record and choose its registration or notification control.
- Select phone, text, email, or TTY. Add more than one offered method when redundancy is useful.
- Create the requested PIN for telephone alerts and keep it private but available.
- Complete any text or email confirmation displayed by the current system.
- Retain the registration confirmation and note the facility attached to the alert.
- Register separately for each person and for any new custody system after a transfer.
The Virginia VINE FAQ lists 1-800-467-4943 for the state service and 1-866-847-1298 for TTY. Those channels can help when the online path is unavailable. The official instructions also support the phone, email, text, TTY, and PIN registration process.
The official instructions confirm the available alert methods, while the selected person's record controls which local event the notice follows.
Rappahannock VINE and NAAVI Split
Virginia's current notification structure divides local jail events from state-prison events. Virginia Jail VINE covers RSW and other local or regional jails. VADOC victim notifications use NAAVI for eligible direct crime victims and immediate family in state custody matters. NAAVI events include transfers, advance and actual release, death, name change, work release, escape or recapture, and parole events within its stated scope.
A registration does not follow the person automatically from one system to the other. If a VINE notice reflects transfer from RSW into VADOC, search the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator for general public status information. An eligible person seeking state-custody notices must complete the separate NAAVI process. VADOC lists 1-800-560-4292 and victimservices@vadoc.virginia.gov for victim-services help, along with posted weekday service hours.
| System | Rappahannock use | Registration scope |
|---|---|---|
| Virginia Jail VINE | RSW local or regional jail events | Free public custody notifications for a selected record |
| NAAVI | Eligible VADOC state-custody victim notifications | Separate eligibility and enrollment |
| VADOC locator | Public state custody and supervision lookup | Status search, not a transferred VINE registration |
This local-state split is crucial in Rappahannock County. A transfer can end RSW custody, trigger a local event, and begin a separate VADOC record without any release to the community.
Note: A local VINE registration does not become a NAAVI registration when RSW transfers a person into Virginia state custody.
Confirm Rappahannock Release Events
Use the alert to prompt confirmation. For an RSW event, request the local booking-and-release transaction. Ask for the release date and time, release type or disposition code, and destination or receiving authority. If the person left on bond, the criminal case may still be pending. If the record says time served, probation or other court terms may remain. If it says transfer, contact the receiving authority.
For a VADOC matter, read custody, supervision, location, and release-date labels separately in the Inmate and Supervisee Locator. A future projected date can change and does not prove discharge. A district-office result may show that prison confinement ended while community supervision continues. VADOC release documents or a narrow agency confirmation carry more weight than an old estimate.
Sheriff Connie S. Compton's office may hold a county arrest or incident record, but it does not operate RSW. VADOC Community Corrections controls state supervision records. The Virginia Parole Board supplies applicable discretionary-parole decisions, not the local VINE event or completed release time.
Virginia Code § 53.1-133.02 also provides a written-request notice mechanism for specified local-prisoner events and permits use of statewide VINE in its statutory setting. It is not a public recent-release archive. The statute concerns notice for qualifying circumstances, while the RSW release record documents the underlying event.
Federal Release Notification Limits
VINELink does not replace the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. A federally sentenced person is checked through BOP records. A county arrest, a federal detainer, or a brief federal hold does not by itself make someone a BOP prisoner. Even a BOP notation that a person is not in BOP custody does not prove freedom in the community because another authority or supervised-release setting may apply.
ICE civil detention also uses a separate Online Detainee Locator System. Release from RSW to an ICE detainer is a transfer, not a community release. An ICE search miss is not decisive because coverage and timing limits apply. Follow the RSW destination field, then use the receiving system's identifiers and records. Court information can add legal context, but the custody agencies document the physical handoff.
These federal and immigration checks do not extend a Virginia Jail VINE alert. Start a new inquiry in the receiving system and keep the RSW event as the handoff point between records.
- Released
- The custodian records that physical custody ended, with context needed to learn whether supervision remains.
- Transferred
- The reporting agency ended custody because another authority received the person.
- Not shown
- The search did not return a record, leaving the outcome unconfirmed.
- Discharge
- An agency term that must be read with the status record to learn whether all supervision ended.
A careful Rappahannock County VINELink inmate check ends with one of those bounded conclusions. It should never convert an alert, database miss, or old projected date into more certainty than the source provides.
